Youths set fire to Grimsby woodland

Two young people have been identified as responsible for setting fires in wooded areas of Grimsby.

Emergency services have received numerous reports of intentional fires near Kingston Woods and Waterworks Cottages in Grimsby in recent weeks.

A joint effort between Humberside Police and Humberside Fire & Rescue Service, who increased patrols and engaged with local residents over the issue, has resulted in the teens being identified and dealt with in relation to the crimes.

According to a Humberside Police spokesperson, information from the community and proactive policing meant officers were able to trace two youths believed to be involved. Home visits were conducted, and both individuals have now been referred to the Youth Justice System. They will also take part in a Juvenile Firesetters Course run by the fire service, aimed at teaching the dangers and consequences of starting fires.

New signage has also been installed to deter further fire-related incidents and encourage reporting of information.
