Staff at Cleethorpes Station helped make a magical day for two-year-old Leo, who is receiving care at St Andrew’s Hospice.
Earlier this month, Leo was welcomed by the TransPennine Express (TPE) team for a special behind-the-scenes experience “he’ll never forget.”
Karl Collier, a driver assessor at TPE, showed Leo how to sit in the driver’s seat, start the engine, and switch the train lights on and off “just like a real driver,” a spokesperson said.
Leo also had the chance to try the onboard announcement system, recording his own messages and hearing his voice broadcast through the train’s speakers.
Describing the experienced Karl said:
“Leo was a natural in the driver’s seat! It was such a joy to show him how the train works and to be part of a memorable day.”
Andy McClements, Customer Experience & Transformation Director for TPE, added: “We’re incredibly proud of our colleagues at Cleethorpes for making Leo’s wish come true. Their dedication and care truly reflect the values we stand for at TPE. Creating moments like this is a powerful reminder of the positive impact we can have in the communities we serve.”
