A dramatic rescue took place on Cleethorpes Beach after eight youths became stranded on an isolated sandbank.
Dozens gathered to watch as a large multi-agency response was launched last night, Monday 30 June. Humberside Police, HM Coastguard Cleethorpes, the RNLI, East Midlands Ambulance Service, a Coastguard helicopter, Mablethorpe Inshore Lifeboat and Humber All-Weather Lifeboat were all tasked with assisting in the operation.
Witnesses praised the helicopter crew’s efforts after they landed on a narrow stretch of sandbank to reach the stranded youths – several commended their skill for landing in such a small and precarious area, labelling their actions “heroic”. The entire group, who are not believed to be local, was safely brought back to shore.
A spokesperson for HM Coastguard said: “HM Coastguard responded to reports of eight people cut off by the tide at Cleethorpes this evening, 30 June, at approximately 7:20pm. A Coastguard helicopter, Mablethorpe Inshore Lifeboat, Humber All-Weather Lifeboat, and the Cleethorpes and Donna Nook Coastguard Rescue Teams were tasked. All eight individuals were rescued by the Coastguard helicopter and safely transferred to the care of the Coastguard Rescue Teams on scene.”
Nobody is believed to have been injured.
