Demolition reveals changing face of Victoria Street

Demolition work at Grimsby’s former Top Town Market is now well underway, with new images revealing the changing face of the town centre.

As previously reported, the market closed in February and is now being demolished to make way for a new cinema as part of the wider Freshney Place Leisure Scheme.

Construction of a new, permanent market hall is also expected to begin in the coming months. In the meantime, a temporary market has been set up inside the shopping centre.

Much of the shop fronts at the corner of Victoria Street and Bull Ring Lane have already been torn down, leaving behind large areas of rubble.

The latest update from North East Lincolnshire Council stated that that construction work on the new cinema is expected to begin “later this year”, marking a significant shift in the look of Grimsby’s town centre.
