The changing face of Grimsby town centre in photos

Demolition work in Grimsby town centre is now well underway, revealing dramatic changes to the area’s appearance.

New photographs show the scale of progress, with much of the former Top Town Market and a row of shops along Victoria Street already reduced to rubble. The demolition marks a major transition in the town’s history as North East Lincolnshire Council ploughs ahead with the controversial Freshney Place Leisure Scheme.

Top Town Market, which closed its doors in February after several decades, is set to be replaced by a new market hall, construction of which is expected to begin in the coming months. In the meantime, a temporary market has been established inside the shopping centre.

According to the latest update from North East Lincolnshire Council, work on building the new cinema is expected to start “later this year,” signalling a significant change for Grimsby’s town centre skyline.
