Thieves target Grimsby youth centre

Members of the community have come together to donate to a local youth centre after they suffered a break-in.

On Saturday 9 August, an individual broke into the Shalom Youth Centre by smashing a window in the adjacent Church, before proceeding through the building to gain access to the youth centre itself.

In doing so however, they triggered an alarmed door dividing the two buildings, but still made off with the centre’s expensive PlayStation 5, which costs upwards of £400.

The individual is thought to have been inside the building for no more than five minutes, and staff claim that they “knew exactly where they were going”, all while being captured on CCTV.

Since the break-in, the goodwill of the local community has shown as individuals are making donations and chipping-in to cover the costs of purchasing a new PlayStation 5.

Humberside Police said: “Officers are investigating a burglary after they were called to a business premises at the junction of Roberts Street and Rutland Street in Grimsby at around 1.40am on Saturday, 9 August.

“It is reported forced entry was made into the premises causing damage to windows before a games console was allegedly stolen.

“Enquiries remain ongoing to identify the suspect who is believed to have fled the area on foot in the direction of Humberstone Road and is described as wearing a grey tracksuit.

“If anyone has any information or CCTV footage that may assist officers with their investigation, please contact us via our non-emergency number 101 quoting crime reference 25*111252.”
