North East Lincolnshire Council has pledged to improve the condition of signs in Cleethorpes amid criticism from local MP Melanie Onn, who described the state of those at the Boating Lake as “unacceptable.”
Ms Onn said the current signage gives visitors a poor first impression of the resort, adding that she has written to the Council’s Chief Executive urging “immediate action” to have them restored.
“The state of the signs around Cleethorpes Boating Lake is unacceptable,” she wrote. “These are among the first things visitors see when they arrive, yet they’re filthy and in disrepair.”
The council confirmed it is already working on a wider wayfinding scheme aimed at upgrading signage across the resort. A consultant has now been appointed to take the project forward.
A spokesperson for North East Lincolnshire Council said: “The Wayfinding scheme, for which NELC now has consultants on-board, is looking to update signage across the resort from a wayfinding perspective and this will include the Boating Lake. In the meantime, we will be updating the vinyl on this particular sign.”
The wayfinding project, first launched earlier this year, aims to make it easier for visitors to navigate Cleethorpes and to improve the appearance of signs at key attractions.
