A local hedgehog rescue is urging residents in Grimsby to be on the lookout for orphaned hedgehogs.
The hoglets are believed to be in the Albatross Drive area. Wildlife volunteers attempting to locate them so that they can be cared for after their mother had to be put to sleep due to severe injuries.
Kerry from Charlie’s Hedgehog Care confirmed she had taken the mother hedgehog to the vets after it suffered significant leg and groin injuries. As the female was lactating, it is believed she may have left behind a litter of young hoglets that are now at risk.
The hoglets may still be in their nest or roaming nearby gardens searching for their mother. Residents are being asked to listen out for a distinctive high-pitched peeping noise, which the young make when calling for her.
Kerry is appealing to anyone in the Albatross Drive area who sees or hears the hoglets to get in touch with Charlie’s Hedgehog Care immediately.
