Residents and businesses in Grimsby town centre say they have been left struggling with little or no mobile phone signal and data connectivity for weeks.
The disruption has been linked to a faulty O2 mast on top of Devonshire House on Bull Ring Lane. Repairs, however, have been delayed after birds were reportedly found nesting at the site.
An O2 spokesperson explained: “We apologise to customers in the Grimsby area who may be experiencing intermittent service issues. Unfortunately, one of our masts is out of service due to nesting birds, and we’re currently unable to access the site. Once it’s safe to do so, our engineers will work to restore services to normal levels as soon as possible. In the meantime, all other masts in the area are operating as usual.”
The company has not confirmed exactly when work will begin, leaving customers facing ongoing disruption to calls and mobile data.
Following speculation online, North East Lincolnshire Council said that the issue is not connected to nearby demolition work.
Local traders say the poor signal has made day-to-day business difficult, while residents report feeling “cut off” from family and friends and say they are unable to access crucial online banking services while in the area.
