A new contractor has been drafted in to finish the troubled Corporation Bridge restoration – more than two and a half years after the bridge was first shut.
The Grade II listed structure was closed in February 2023 for what was supposed to be an 11-month, £5 million project. Since then, costs are thought to have spiralled, deadlines have been missed, and the scheme has been mired in controversy.
Work ground to a halt earlier this year when North East Lincolnshire Council (NELC) severed its contract with Spencer Group. Now, following months of inactivity, the authority has announced that specialist firm Taziker has been appointed to take over.
The update comes alongside news that Historic England will provide a £495,000 grant to support the works.
No new timetable or budget has been published.
Councillor Stewart Swinburn, portfolio holder for highways and transport, said: “The involvement of a firm with such a proven history of working with complex and historic structures, is good news. The recent grant from Historic England is also a huge vote of confidence in our determination to get this project over the line, and that is what we will do.”
