Event organisers across North East Lincolnshire are being urged to warn the council about their plans, as they could put people at risk.
North East Lincolnshire Council has asked that anyone putting on a public bonfire in the borough get in touch with them for “safety reasons” as they “could end up putting others at risk”.
The Council said in a statement: “Public events are a great way to bring the community together and can help reduce the number of bonfires built in communal areas or in the gardens of homes.
“Humberside Fire and Rescue Service will be actively encouraging the public to attend public displays and will be working closely with partners to ensure a safe and enjoyable evening for all.”
Councillor Ron Shepherd, portfolio holder for Safer and Stronger Communities, said: “We all enjoy watching a marvellous fireworks display, but event organisers must take lots of things into account before planning an event, including notifying the Council. We are here to help event planners to ensure their event is safe and enjoyable for the public.”
A form to notify the council is available on their website under the ‘Events’ section of Apply For It.
