New festoon lighting to be installed in Grimsby

New lighting will soon illuminate Victoria Street West in Grimsby.

The addition is part of efforts to introduce a brighter and more festive atmosphere into the town centre, with festoon lighting set to stretch from Riverhead Square to St James’ Square.

The decorative feature — consisting of large, exposed bulbs suspended from cables — is part of the ongoing Greening Up Our Town Centre initiative, funded through the High Street Accelerator Fund.

In recent months, the project has seen colourful planters, new benches, and wall art introduced to the area. The next phase will see contractors install brackets before hanging the new lights in the coming weeks.

Councillor Philip Jackson, Leader and Portfolio Holder for Economy, Regeneration, Devolution and Skills, said: “This is yet another great addition to our high street and I’m thrilled to see the street reimagined and full of life.

“This is just one small part of the regeneration scheme now taking place. This is one of the most ambitious schemes this council has ever undertaken. With significant public investment, we’re transforming our town centre to create places where people want to live, work, and visit.”
