Man arrested after attacking police in Grimsby

A 47-year-old man has been arrested following an attack on a police officer in Grimsby.

Last night, Sunday 26 October, an off-duty officer responded to a radio alert from a colleague, where “fighting and struggling could be heard.” Diverting from their journey home, the officer rushed to Railway Street, just two minutes away.

A spokesperson for Humberside Police explained that, due to the officer’s close proximity, they knew they would arrive before other uniformed units to assist the officer in need, and so he “swiftly sprang into action to help his colleague.”

With a second officer’s help, the uniformed officer was able to place the 47-year-old suspect in cuffs. He was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker.

Thankfully, no one was seriously injured.

Humberside Police commended the “quick thinking and unwavering commitment to not only protect the public, but protect their colleague too,” adding that, thanks to them, the incident came to a safe conclusion.
