The owner of a Grimsby pharmacy that owes staff hundreds of thousands of pounds in unpaid wages says he is selling and remortgaging stores to cover the debt.
The Laceby Road branch of Jhoots Pharmacies closed last month amid allegations of financial mismanagement. Employees across the chain — including those at the Grimsby branch — are reportedly owed around £670,000 in unpaid wages.
The situation has also left patients struggling to access prescriptions.
According to the latest update, Jhoots Pharmacy director Sarbjit Singh Jhooty told The Pharmaceutical Journal he is planning to sell around 30 stores, describing it as “the only way” he can afford to pay staff.
He added that he would sell more stores if necessary and that he is “working with the NHS” to resolve the situation.
Gi Grimsby News contacted Jhoots Pharmacy and the Humber and North Yorkshire Integrated Care Board for comment but did not receive a response.
