Seven events to mark Remembrance Sunday in North East Lincolnshire

Remembrance Sunday will be observed with seven official events across North East Lincolnshire this year.

Services will take place in Grimsby, Cleethorpes, New Waltham, Waltham, Stallingborough, Healing, and Immingham on Sunday, 9 November. A number of road closures will be in place to ensure the commemorations marking the Armistice – the official end of the First World War – can take place safely and without disruption.

Here’s a full list of events and everything you need to know…

Grimsby: The Service of Remembrance at Grimsby Minster begins at 9:30am on Sunday, 9 November. At 10:25am, a parade will form outside the Minster and march via Deansgate Bridge and Bargate to the Cenotaph at Nuns Corner, arriving around 10:50am.

A coach will be available for those unable to walk to the Cenotaph. A short service will follow, with a gun salute marking the two-minute silence and wreath-laying. Road closures will be in place from 10am on Bethlehem Street, Church Lane, Deansgate, and Bargate, reopening once the parade has passed.

Cleethorpes: A Service of Remembrance will be held at St Peter’s Church on St Peter’s Avenue from 10am. A parade will form outside at 10:45am, followed by wreath-laying and a procession at 11:30am along St Peter’s Avenue, Short Street, Market Street, and Alexandra Road, finishing at the Memorial Gate around 12pm.

Road closures will be in place from 10am for the duration of the parade, with nearby streets affected briefly.

Immingham: A short parade will gather at Immingham lorry park on Pelham Road at 10:30am, marching to the Memorial at 10.45am. After a Service of Remembrance at the Memorial, the parade will make its way to the Civic Centre.

New Waltham: New Waltham has a short service planned from 10.45am at the New Waltham War Memorial, followed by a Church service at St Matthews.

Healing: A parade will march from the Royal British Legion in Healing at 10:30am, to the Cenotaph, where a service will take place from 10:45am.

Waltham: In Waltham, the Remembrance Service will take place at 11am at the Waltham War Memorial, with two minutes silence being observed.

A parade will form-up at 10:30am in the grounds of the Waltham Royal British Legion. At 11:15am, the parade will march to a service at Waltham All Saints Church, returning to the grounds of the Royal British Legion for 12:10pm. Surrounding streets may be affected for a short period of time during the parade.

Stallingborough: A short service will take place at the War Memorial on Station Road, with a road closure in place to facilitate the event. Attendees will then make their way to the village hall for refreshments.
