Firefighters warn of ‘life-threatening’ risks after Grimsby arson

Firefighters have issued a warning about the dangers of deliberate fires following a suspected arson attack at a known antisocial behaviour hotspot in Grimsby.

Earlier this week crews were called to tackle a large blaze at a derelict property on Eleanor Street, which has been repeatedly targeted in recent years. The fire, believed to have been started deliberately, caused extensive damage and required a major emergency response.

A 15-year-old boy was later arrested in connection with the incident — one of several similar fires reported at the site in recent months.

Humberside Fire and Rescue Service has now issued a public warning, urging people to consider the potentially life-threatening consequences of deliberate fire-setting, which not only endangers lives but also diverts resources from genuine emergencies.

A spokesperson for the organisation said: “Our crews recently responded to a deliberate fire at the derelict former art college in Grimsby. These types of incidents aren’t just dangerous – they divert vital resources away from emergencies where lives may be at risk.”

Anyone with information about deliberate fires or suspicious activity is asked to report what they know to the police or FireStoppers on 08001695558.
