Two teenage boys have been arrested after a 57-year-old man was struck by his own van during an attempted theft in Grimsby.
Police were called to Gilbey Road at around 4:15 PM on Wednesday 5 November, following reports that the teenagers had entered a parked van and tried to drive off. In an effort to stop the theft, the owner was reportedly hit by the vehicle, sustaining leg and ankle injuries.
Officers later located the abandoned van on Pelham Road in Immingham. The suspects were seen fleeing through an alleyway towards Hume Brae, reportedly entering multiple properties and hopping through gardens in an attempt to evade arrest.
A short time later, Humberside Police received a report from a member of the public that a teenage boy had forced entry into a nearby address on Kinloch Way, causing damage.
A 16-year-old boy was arrested at the scene on suspicion of robbery, aggravated vehicle taking and injury caused by accident, burglary, criminal damage, driving dangerously, taking a motor vehicle without consent, using a vehicle without insurance, and driving without a licence. While in custody, he also allegedly assaulted a police officer and was further arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker.
A 15-year-old boy has also been arrested on suspicion of robbery and wounding with intent.
Humberside Police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
