A popular fireworks night event will go ahead as planned at Grimsby Town Cricket Club, despite a series of water main bursts that have caused major disruption over the past year.
The club has suffered four separate leaks in recent months, leading to flooding, cancelled events, and a significant loss of income. The latest incident occurred just one day before the club’s annual fireworks display, sparking concern over the their the event could go ahead.
Thanks to swift action from staff and volunteers, the water levels were brought under control, allowing the event to continue as planned and the efforts of all who work there.
A spokesperson for the organisation has repeatedly called on Anglian Water to rectify the issue, noting that it is destroying the club.
In response, an Anglian Water apologised for the problem, adding that it is doing everything it can to repair the issue while conducting “wider investigations to identify the root cause of these issues, and we’re exploring long-term solutions to prevent any future issues.”
An Anglian Water spokesperson said: “We’re really sorry about the leak at Grimsby Cricket Club. Our teams are working as quickly as possible to fix the burst pipe and improve water pressures for nearby residents, including by moving water around the network and installing a temporary overland pipe.
“We know this isn’t the first burst pipe at the Cricket Club, and that this is particularly inconvenient, coming just before their planned Bonfire Night celebrations tomorrow. We’re doing everything we can to get things back to normal in time for the event to go ahead as planned, and as part of this we’re engaging closely with the Cricket Club.
“We’ve also already begun wider investigations to identify the root cause of these issues, and we’re exploring long-term solutions to prevent any future issues. Again, we’re really sorry for the inconvenience, and we’d like to thank the Cricket Club and nearby residents for bearing with us while we get things back to normal.”
