Hundreds of seal pups born at Donna Nook

The annual grey seal pupping season is well underway at Donna Nook National Nature Reserve, with hundreds of pups already recorded along the Lincolnshire coast.

The Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust confirmed the first pup arrived on Wednesday, 22 October, and within a fortnight, nine pups had been spotted from the viewing area. As of Friday, 7 November, numbers have risen sharply, with 169 pups, 387 cows, and 125 bulls counted.

Last year, a total of 1,649 pups were born — a slight decrease compared to previous years — with the first birth taking place on 29 October.

Thousands more are expected to arrive or be born in the coming weeks as the season reaches its peak.

Donna Nook remains one of the UK’s most popular locations to witness grey seals during pupping season, attracting visitors eager to see the heart-warming sight of new life on the coast.
