The sudden closure of Hough’s coach company in Cleethorpes left many travellers across the borough worried, with trips cancelled at short notice and speculation rife.
It soon emerged that established operator PC Coaches had taken over the former Hough’s office at 80 Middlethorpe Road. The company first formed in 1978 and now has four depots in Louth, Horncastle, Lincoln and now Cleethorpes.
Gi Grimsby News visited the new base to clarify the terms of the move, which has resulted in several former Hough’s staff now being employed by PC Coaches. However, the company has not taken over the Hough’s business itself and has no control over, or responsibility for, any previous bookings.
Tour Manager Emily Blyth, who has worked with PC Coaches for 13 years, normally operates out of the Louth office but said she is delighted to be working at the new Cleethorpes office.
She shared her gratitude and praise for the customers who have visited the office so far, explaining that despite the challenging circumstances, people have been “extremely grateful.”
“I’ve not had one angry customer, which I can say is amazing,” she added. Emily said that she understands the worry felt by Hough’s customers, but implored holiday-makers not to “lose hope in coach travel. There are some really good operators out there – we are here to answer any questions.”
Emily continued, “Many of the customers have been extremely grateful for the help that we’re providing them because they’re unable to speak with anybody at Hough’s. I love dealing with the customers. There are lots of customers we deal with on a regular basis, face to face and over the phone. It’s nice to help them find exactly what they need, what their perfect break is.”
Managing Director, Stephen Bryce also reassured customers that all bookings made with PC Coaches are protected, stating that they are “here to stay and will provide a welcoming environment”.
