Grimsby and Cleethorpes Sea Cadets invite younger children to join

Grimsby & Cleethorpes Sea Cadets is preparing to open its junior section to a younger age group.

From January, the organisation will accept children from the age of nine as part of plans to expand opportunities for young people in the area.

The change means local children can begin their Sea Cadet journey a year earlier than before, developing confidence, teamwork and practical life skills from a younger age.

The first intake of new nine-year-old recruits will take place on Thursday 8 January, with spaces capped at just 12 to ensure high-quality training and support. Families are encouraged to register their interest early to avoid disappointment.

Those involved are offered a wide range of activities, including paddlesports, boating, STEM projects, nautical skills, first aid, community events, drill, parades, weekends away and teamwork challenges. Many have gone on to achieve nationally recognised qualifications and progress into a senior Sea Cadet or Royal Marines Cadet.

Commanding Officer Chief Asquith said: “We are delighted to offer this opportunity to younger children in our community and be one of the first in the area to do so. The Sea Cadets provides a safe, structured and exciting environment where young people can grow, make friends and learn valuable skills that last a lifetime.”
