Drainage problem leaves Cleethorpes community pool waterlogged

A much-loved children’s attraction in Cleethorpes has flooded following a mechanical issue at the site.

The paddling pool at Cleethorpes’ Discovery Centre, which also includes a sandpit, experienced flooding after a problem was identified within its drainage system. Nathan Taylor, Director of Your Community Hub CIC (Community Interest Company), which manages the facility, has reassured families that the issue will be resolved ahead of the busy summer season.

Nathan told Gi Grimsby News that the flooding was caused by a blocked screw-in plug inside the pool’s drainage system, preventing water from escaping properly.

He explained that while an engineer or drainage company could be called out immediately, doing so would result in unnecessary costs. Instead, the blockage will be addressed during the pool’s scheduled annual service before summer, when all pipes are fully washed through and cleared, ready for reopening.

The pool area remains fully fenced off, and there is no danger to life or risk of injury, aside from the paddling pool itself being temporarily waterlogged.

A more thorough clean-up is expected to take place in March, with the pool set to reopen as normal for free in May 2026.

Nathan said, “As always, it will remain free to use for local families and will continue to operate at no cost to the taxpayer.”

He also highlighted the CIC’s track record, noting that since taking over management in 2019, the pool has achieved a 100% daily opening record. This marks a significant improvement on previous years, when the attraction often faced prolonged closures during the summer months.

The Community Hub thanked residents for their patience and continued support.
