A final look at Abbey Walk car park before demolition

Abbey Walk car park is set to be demolished next week, permanently altering the skyline of Grimsby town centre.

The multi-storey car park has been closed since May 2024 due to structural concerns and will be taken down as part of wider regeneration plans, including the creation of a new transport hub.

Built in the 1960s, the car park is also known for the large relief artworks attached to its exterior. Campaigners have previously expressed disappointment that there is no confirmed commitment to preserve the artworks ahead of demolition, which is due to begin on Monday 5 January.

These images show Abbey Walk car park and its artworks in the days before demolition, documenting a piece of Grimsby’s cultural history before it disappears.
