The search for a third person missing in the sea off the coast of Withernsea has been called off.
Emergency services were first alerted on Friday 2 January following reports of a group of people in difficulty in the water.
A major search and rescue operation was led by HM Coastguard, involving more than 100 personnel from the RNLI, Yorkshire Ambulance Service, Humberside Police, and Humberside Fire and Rescue Service.
Two people, including a 67-year-old man, were taken from the water but sadly died. Efforts to locate a third person continued the following day, however the search was stood down yesterday afternoon.
Speaking yesterday, a spokesperson for HM Coastguard said: “After resuming shoreline searches in Withernsea for one missing person today, 3 January, HM Coastguard stood down its extensive search effort this afternoon.”
