Police were called to a shop on Burringham Road shortly after 9.30pm on Monday 5 January, after an off-duty security guard detained a suspected shoplifter. The man is reported to have attempted to leave the store with multiple items without paying.

He has been arrested on suspicion of 11 counts of shop theft, two counts of assault, actual bodily harm, robbery, and burglary with intent to steal. During a search, officers discovered what is believed to be a knife, leading to a further arrest on suspicion of possession of a bladed article.

Shop staff were reportedly assaulted during the incident but were not injured.
