Tolls on the Humber Bridge are set to rise later this month for the first time in 14 years, as a new payment system is introduced.
The revised charges will take effect when the bridge’s toll booths close at midnight on Friday 30 January, ahead of the launch of a free-flow payment system scheduled to go live on Monday 2 February.
Officials said the increase reflects a significant rise in maintenance and operational costs.
Drivers crossing during the changeover weekend will still be able to pay online once the new system is operational. They will have until midnight on 3 February to pay the toll before a £25 administration fee is applied.
Details of the increases were confirmed in June, when it was announced that motorists without an account would see the cost of a crossing rise from £1.50 to £2, while charges for vans will increase to £5 and £15 for HGVs.
Account holders will continue to benefit from lower rates, with car tolls increasing from £1.35 to £1.50, vans charged £4, and HGVs £12.
