Two men have been jailed following a knifepoint robbery at a shop in Grimsby.
Humberside Police were alerted in September 2025 after three men carried out a robbery at a business on Macauley Street. One man threatened the shopkeeper with a knife, another took cash from the till, while a third acted as a lookout.
Extensive CCTV enquiries identified the suspects as they fled towards Boulevard Avenue. Footage showed Bailey Hanna entering the shop brandishing a knife, Reece Mcrae acting as the lookout, and a third man taking the cash. Mcrae was also wearing an electronic tag at the time, allowing officers to confirm his movements.
Further CCTV later showed the group on Cromwell Avenue, where two knives were discarded and subsequently recovered. A search of a nearby address uncovered clothing linked to the robbery.
Hanna and Mcrae were arrested and charged three days later. The third man handed himself in on 10 September 2025 but was later released with no further action due to evidential difficulties.
At Grimsby Crown Court on Tuesday 20 January, Hanna and Mcrae were sentenced to a combined total of eight years in prison.
Reece Mcrae, 23, was jailed for five years after pleading guilty to robbery. Bailey Hanna, 22, received a three-year sentence after pleading guilty to robbery and possession of a bladed article in a public place.
Detective Constable Jaymee Carlton from our Criminal Investigation Department commented on the result, saying: “This was a needless and indefensible knifepoint robbery carried out by two bullies, who showed a clear disregard for the shop keeper and how their actions may affect them.
“Thankfully, the shop keeper did not sustain any injuries as a result but was naturally left feeling shaken by the incident.
“We have zero tolerance for individuals who carry weapons and use fear to commit crime and intimidate those who are going about their daily business, earning a living and working in local shops within tightknit communities.”
