A new way of paying to cross the Humber Bridge will be introduced this week, with manned toll booths set to be removed.
The overhaul will also bring the first increase in toll charges for 13 years, with officials citing rising operational and maintenance costs.
The change takes effect when the toll booths close permanently at midnight on Friday 30 January. From then on, an automated system will be in place and drivers will no longer be able to stop and pay at the bridge.
Instead, motorists must pay either in advance or by midnight on the day after their crossing, using an app or online system. Payment will also be available by phone, or in advance with cash or card at Paypoint outlets.
Drivers crossing during the changeover weekend will still be able to pay online once the new system is live, with a deadline of midnight on 3 February before an administration fee is applied.
The cost for cars will rise from £1.50 to £2 each way, although account holders will receive a 25% discount.
Anyone who fails to pay on time will face a £25 administration charge.
