Work has begun to convert Grimsby’s Grade II listed Haven Mill into apartments.
Following the approval of redevelopment plans last year, the historic building on Garth Lane is set to become a block of 28 apartments.
Haven Mill was originally constructed between 1815 and 1821, functioning as a mill and warehouse before being expanded in the 19th century. It remained in industrial use until the mid-20th century and later housed a pub, restaurant and nightclub, all of which have since closed.
While parts of the mill continue to be occupied by retail businesses, much of the building had stood largely vacant for several years, attracting little commercial interest. That changed in 2025, when plans were approved to transform the site into a residential development.
It is understood that the scheme will preserve the building’s exterior and key original features, with elements of historic refurbishment taking place. Spanning four floors, the development will deliver 28 apartments alongside retained ground-floor commercial units, creating 32 rental spaces in total.
Planning documents submitted to North East Lincolnshire Council state the project is intended to “secure the future” of the landmark building.
