A rarely seen, non-native duck has been rescued after being found “tightly entangled” in nearly 15 metres of fishing line.
The Bahama pintail hybrid was discovered at Sidney Park in Cleethorpes — a site increasingly known for human-caused wildlife injuries linked to discarded fishing gear.
Volunteers from Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue (CWR) were called out over the weekend and found the bird with fishing line wound tightly around both wings, its chest, and neck. It was also dragging a large bundle of reeds caught in the line and had sustained multiple constriction injuries.
Since the rescue, the duck has been taken to the organisation’s centre for specialist care, where its injuries are said to be improving.
A spokesperson for Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue said the bird likely escaped from a private collection and will be rehomed rather than released back into the wild.
