Fire rips through derelict Grimsby property

Emergency services remain in attendance on Sixhills Street in Grimsby this morning, Monday 15 April, after a fire ripped through a derelict building last night. 

Humberside Fire and Rescue were called to the two- storey building at around 19:45. Crews used an aerial ladder platform, two main jets, two hose reels, three tics, two hay drags, two ceiling hooks, a drone and two breathing apparatus to control and eventually extinguish the blaze, which was fortunately contained to building.

The building is well known for being used by rough sleepers, but it nobody is thought to have been inside when the fire broke out.

The area was shut while firefighters dealt with the blaze. Most of the surrounding roads have reopened, but part of Sixhills Street remains shut while an investigation takes begins.

A scene guard is also in place.

Humberside Police said: “We were called to reports of a property on fire on Sixhill Street in Grimsby at around 7.50pm yesterday (Sunday 14 April). Nobody is believed to have sustained injuries as a result of the fire. Enquiries are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire, and anyone with information or CCTV footage that may assist with enquiries can contact us on our non-emergency number 101 quoting log 441 of 14 April.”
